Senate District 25 DFLers Endorse Candidates and Elect New Party Officers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dahle, McGuire and Bly
will represent the DFL on November’s ballot.

Montgomery, Minnesota – On Saturday, March 20th, 2010 the Senate District 25 Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party held its convention at the Montgomery American Legion. DFLers in attendance endorsed a State Senate and two State House Representative Candidates, along with electing new party officers.

Current State Senator Kevin Dahle, of Northfield, was endorsed to run for a second term. Senator Dahle was elected to the State Senate in January of 2008 during a special election after former State Senator Tom Neuville was appointed a Rice County District Court Judge.

“I have never taken for granted the fact that voters, just over 2 years ago, put their trust in me to be their Senator.  I am committed to continuing the work we have started and hope the people of district 25 will join me in a collective effort to do the best we can as we move forward through the difficult challenges facing Minnesota.” Senator Dahle stated.

In the House District 25A race, the convention’s delegates endorsed Montgomery Mayor Mick McGuire.  McGuire, a long-time New Prague business owner, is serving his fifth term as Mayor. He has served on a number of regional and state level councils dealing with municipal and local government issues.

While aware of the many difficult challenges that lay ahead for Minnesota, McGuire stressed that, “with a restored vision, with realistic goals and with a revitalized spirit, we can and will once again make Minnesota a place we all can be proud of.”

In the House District 25B race, the convention’s delegates endorsed current State Representative David Bly, of Northfield, to run for a third term. He serves as the vice chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division House Committee.

"I am proud to once more receive the endorsement of local DFL activists.  They have helped me get my message out in the past and have stood by me through highs and lows.  I owe them a lot and will work hard to carry the standard and represent all
citizens in 25B."
said State Rep. Bly.

All three were endorsed unanimously on the first ballot.

New Party Officers were also elected to serve a two-year term - Shawn Groth (Lonsdale) Chair; Harriet Wishnick (New Prague) Associate Chair; Amy Haas (LeSueur) Secretary & State Central Committee Alternate; Kathy Sommers (Northfield) Treasurer; Tom Hayes (Northfield) Affirmative Action Officer and Ray Knutson (Belle Plaine) State Central Committee Alternate.

“I’m honored by this opportunity to serve the district as chair. I’ll work hard to bring the party and its candidates to the people throughout our district. It’s all about people and people matter.” said Groth.
